The Ignite Youth Leadership Program (IYLP) is proudly supported by UHSM. Ignite is a youth leadership program based out of Kid Works in Santa Ana, CA.  KidWorks is a family resource center who ushers hope into Orange County’s most challenging neighborhoods through life changing leadership development and academic enrichment programs while also fortifying families by engaging and supporting parents. Director of Ignite Youth Leadership, Anthony Cummings, leads and empowers a cohort of junior high and high school students to embrace the leader inside of them and mentor their younger peers in the community.

Ignite youth leaders provide mentorship and encouragement by leading character themed soccer activities and games.  Within this, the Ignite leaders lead youth with a posture of love, prayer, and modeling positive character behavior.  Another aspect of this program is workforce preparation.  The leaders learn valuable skills such as social etiquette (how to properly shake hands/break into a conversation), designing their own resume, appropriate workspace communication, and mock interviews.  IYLP is also a safe space where these same leaders engage in honest and healthy conversations around faith and the love of Jesus Christ.

UHSM seeks to make fundamental and intentional change in our communities.  And the Ignite Youth Leadership Program is one of the many pieces in doing that! Thus far in 2021, Ignite has been blessed with eight high school youth leaders and two seventh grade Jr. Ignite youth leaders.  This diverse team of students will help deliver valuable and fun soccer games and activities and become agents of change in their community for years to come.
